It's no secret that John Montelus will be a top recruiting priority for Boston College over the next year. The Everett offensive tackle is up to five offers and given the fact that he's an in-state prospect with a great relationship with the BC staff, it would be huge to reel him in.
Montelus has always had good things to say about Boston College. He was optimistic and upbeat throughout BC's struggles during the 2011 season and continued to look for signs of improvement.
Since the season has ended he has continued to build his relationship with one member of the Eagles' staff.
"I've been talking to Coach (Sean) Devine and I'm going to the junior day at Boston College in January," Montelus told EagleAction.com early this week. "I think that's going to be on January 28.
"He's just been telling me how much he wants me to get up there and everything. I talk with him about every week. Now we're talking a lot and I'm really used to him. We've got a great relationship."
Landing Montelus would be huge for the Eagles, but don't expect a decision from him in the near future. The offers are still coming in and should be for a while.
UConn, NC State, Syracuse and Virginia are the other schools that have offered the 6-foot-5, 295-pound offensive tackle.
"West Virginia and Rutgers have shown interest," he added. "I might go to a junior day at West Virginia in February.
"Nebraska and Purdue are two other schools I've been talking to. I've got interest from Michigan, too."
When asked whether there are any schools he's hoping to hear more from down the road Montelus pointed to Clemson and Florida State, though it's not clear how much interest the Tigers and Seminoles have at this point.
Does Montelus have any favorites?
"Right now, no," he said. "I'm still just focusing on school."
