Stan Heath Becomes New Head Coach of the Lakeland Magic in NBA's G-League

Boston College Eagles assistant basketball coach Stan Heath has accepted a position to become the first head coach of the Orlando Magic's G-League team, the Lakeland Magic.

Heath spent the past three seasons on the Eagles sidelines as an assistant coach on longtime friend Jim Christian's staff.

The team will look to replace Heath's vacant position on the coaching staff immediately.

Before working at BC, Heath brought 13 years of head coaching experience to the Eagles staff. He was the head coach at Kent State, Arkansas, and South Florida. In those three stops he accumulated 209 career wins. In each of his head coaching stops, Heath took each team to the NCAA tournament. Including an Elite Eight run his first and only year at the helm of Kent State in 2002.

The National Basketball Association’s developmental league has been around since 2001, and has gone through several changes since it began. None bigger than the change announced by the NBA earlier this year.

Starting with the 2017-18 season, the league will change its name from the "D-League" to the "G-League" thanks to a multi-year partnership with Gatorade who is helping to fund the league.

The new partnership now brings 26 teams to the league, and the relocation of a few. The Lakeland Magic were previously known as the Erie BayHawks.
