Sources: Boston College Schedules Rutgers in 2026 and 2027

Boston College football has continued the scheduling trail. According to a report from FBSchedules.com, Boston College has scheduled Rutgers for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. The first game will be on Sept. 12, 2026 at Alumni Stadium, while the Scarlet Knights will host the Eagles at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. on Sept. 11, 2027. Neither program has confirmed, but the contract was obtained by FBSchedules.com via an open records request with Rutgers, the state university of New Jersey.

The scheduling is the first non-conference opponents Boston College has scheduled for that year. The two schools met every year between 1981 and 2004, and were concurrently members of the Big East Conference for much of the 1990s. BC beat Rutgers 21-10 at Alumni Stadium in its most recent meeting on Nov. 6, 2004, and leads the overall series, 19-6-1.

The program is currently in its biggest low period since the turn of the millenium. Under new head coach Chris Ash, Rutgers went 2-10, going winless in the Big Ten and only defeating FCS Howard and the Mountain West's New Mexico. It should be noted that Howard had a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. Since its transition to the Big Ten in 2014, Rutgers has gone 14-23. However, it was not too long ago when Rutgers found itself in the rankings under Greg Schiano. The Scarlet Knights had a winning record every year from 2004 to 2012 (except 2010), with Schiano's most successful year coming in 2006, when Rutgers went 11-2, was as high as No. 7, lost the Big East championship to No. 15 West Virginia but toppled Kansas State in hte Texas Bowl.

For recruiting purposes, this game should be huge for the Eagles. Boston College has focused much of its efforts on taking over New Jersey from the state's only major public school. In recent years, many of BC's top recruits, such as Jonathan Hilliman and Nolan Borgensen, have come from New Jersey.
