Johnson talks spring game, new offer

Delando Johnson is a name Boston College fans should remember. The Maryland athlete visited BC for the football team's spring game and he's starting to make a name for himself.
Shortly after returning home from Boston College the three-star athlete from Towson (Md.) Calvert Hall picked up a big offer.

"Illinois offered me the other day," Johnson told EagleAction.com. "I was pretty excited about that one. It actually came as a surprise. It came from nowhere. I guess they might have been looking at me before. I'm interested in them."
The Illini weren't the first to offer Johnson. East Carolina, Toledo and Youngstown State had already offered. They were the first BCS program to offer, however.
Last weekend Johnson took in the Eagles' spring game and had a great time in Chestnut Hill.
"It's a great campus," he said of BC. "I like that it's a small university because everything's so close together. The coaches are cool and I liked how the atmosphere was. Everyone was like a family.
"The coaches told me I'm doing real good, to just keep everything up. They told me to be patient."
The coaches would like Johnson to camp over the summer because they aren't sure what position they see him fitting into yet. Nonetheless, they clearly have interest in the 6-foot-2, 180-pound athlete.
Johnson believes most schools will recruit him as a strong safety, the position he plays for Calvert Hall.
Last fall he registered 55 tackles and 10 sacks while forcing four fumbles and recovering three.
In spite of the recent offer from Illinois, Johnson said he doesn't have any favorites yet. This summer he wants to camp at Illinois, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan State, West Virginia, Toledo, Bowling Green and Marshall in addition to BC.
