DT is waiting for the right time

Jaxon Hood admits that Boston College has a pretty sizable advantage over the competition at this point. He just doesn't want to rush into a decision and later learn that he made the wrong choice.

In mid-November, Hood took his official visit to Boston College and was blown away by what he experienced at the ACC school. Then again, he doesn't have much to compare it to. It was his first official visit and he wants to see what else is out there.

"I was supposed to go to Washington State this weekend but since they hired their new coach I had to postpone that trip," Hood explained.

"I'm going to Fresno State this weekend. There are a lot of bigger schools that have called me but haven't offered yet. Of course, I could get offers from Washington or Michigan State, but out of all my offers Boston College is definitely my number one."

BC's coaches have even encouraged Hood to do his homework before he makes his choice.

"I'd like to end this as quickly as possible but I want to make the right decision," he said.

"Coach (Frank) Spaziani and I talk pretty frequently now. He told me he wants me to take my trips. They came for their in-home visit with me and that's what they said. They don't want me to pick a place because my parents like it or this and that. The only trip I've taken is Boston College and of course I'm going to be all fired up about it. That's what the purpose of a visit is ... to get you fired up."

Hood admitted that it would take a lot for another school to jump the Eagles but said he's trying to keep an open mind.

The 6-foot-1, 280-pound defensive tackle from Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton had a rough end to his senior season. He suffered a sprained plata fascia late in the season and that kept him on crutches during most of his team's practices, and his team lost in the state championship.

"We had won 53 games in a row. It was the longest winning streak in the nation," Hood explained. "It was tough. I had been really helping to keep everybody focused in practice but when I was out there on crutches it was hard.

"The game was just one of those times when fumbles were bouncing back to them. If you've watched football you know how that goes. It was just a perfect game for them.

"I took it hard for a while but I'm pretty much over it. I've got a lot of football ahead of me."

Barring something unforeseen it looks like that football might be with the Eagles.
