Kevin Maurice recently picked up an offer from Boston College but it's not going to be easy for the Eagles to lure him from the Sunshine State.
Each year many of the top prospects from Florida dream of playing for one of the Big Three -- Florida, Florida State or Miami.
With the relatively recent emergence of South Florida and Central Florida it's even tougher for some schools to get a foothold in the state because the Bulls and Knights are viable options for Florida recruits as well now.
Maurice, a 6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive tackle from Winter Park, just has one offer right now. That's from Boston College.
While you might assume the Eagles are in the best position to land Maurice he doesn't seem intent on making a decision soon and he's hoping some local school show interest.
"I would like to stay in-state," Maurice said this week. "USF and FIU, those are two good programs I'd like to get offers from."
Does that mean Maurice won't consider Boston College?
"Not at all," he responded. "I was real excited about the offer. They came by my school on Friday, I want to say. They had come two weeks ago and they went to the scrimmage the other day. It was Coach Commissiong that was here.
"He talked to our coach and my coach told me about the offer. I'm definitely going to look at them."
Maurice actually knows a little bit about the Eagles and likes what he knows so far.
"I know about the stadium. I talked to Coach Commissiong about that. I know it's a Catholic school and it's supposed to be a really nice school. They also offered out wide receiver, Jeff (Badet), so we're both hoping to take a visit."
While BC is Maurice's only offer to date he said many other schools are showing interest and have visited Orlando (Fla.) Freedom. Many will be coming this week as well.
