The Boston College Eagles did a facelift to their roster throughout this off season. They've brought in seven new players to the program since the end of last season. In the same amount of time, six players have departed from last years roster, including four transfers. With the all of the new players on the roster, several of which fans have never seen play or don't know much about. The season is quickly approaching and the players are getting ready for the upcoming schedule.

Jordan Chatman's evaluation was posted yesterday. In the following text we'll continue to take a deeper look at some of the guys you may not know much about and evaluate their game, in this we'll look at Connar Tava.

First thing you need to know about the Eagles new forward is how to pronounce his last name. He told me Saturday afternoon it's pronounced as if it were spelled "Tavy" (Tay-vee).

The 6-foot-7 graduate of Western Michigan missed last season for the Broncos after suffering a foot injury before the start of the season. He had started 67 straight games for WMU before sitting out last season.

Tava was expected to be one of the best players in the MAC last season, he was named to the preseason all conference team. His junior year he averaged 12.3 points and 6.2 rebounds (team leader) per game, Tava was primed and ready to be one of the main leaders for WMU until he suffered the injury. He was a two-time All-MAC Honorable Mention selection during his time at Western Michigan and a four-time MAC Player of the Week.

The Detroit native was granted a medical redshirt that allowed him to become eligble to graduate with his bachelor's and transfer to Boston College. Tava was drawn to Boston College for several reasons, he stated back when he made his commitment to BC that playing against head coach Jim Christian's tough teams in the MAC (Christian coached Ohio from 2012-2014) and how he'd fit into one of those teams was a big reason. He also mentioned the master's degree in business he would receive at BC was an instant draw and he played in high school with fellow Eagle, A.J. Turner.

Tava has been enrolled and has been attending graduate school in Chestnut Hill all summer. He spent first few weeks on campus completing his rehab for the injury to his foot. Tava made a full recovery and quickly joined his new teammates in the weight room and on the floor for their summer off-season program.

His head coach Steve Hawkins at WMU said back in December that "three NFL teams have shown interest in Tava as a tight end at the next level."

Evaluation

- Pro's pro, business like approach

- Well respected by players and coaches

- Does his job

- Doesn't get overly worked about anything on the floor

- A blue collar big

- Good rebounder

- Draws fouls, a foul magnet when he has the ball on offensive with post play/drives

- BULLY

- Strong, uses his muscle all over the floor

- "Bad Boy Pistons" tough, an old school enforcer 4-man

- A no nonsense approach

- TOUGH, high-level of toughness

- Not a shooter at all

- Everything he does is below the rim, it is very effective though

- Not an ACC level athlete

Overview:

It's very clear to see almost immediately while watching Tava, that as soon as he steps on the floor that the game of basketball is important to him. He stays locked in and focused like it's game day throughout the entirety of practice or a work out. Tava doesn't do much conversational talking on the side, the only time you'll likely hear him talk while on the floor is via communication on offense or defense as well as helping coach up a younger forward on the roster.

He's developed an unbreakable work ethic and no non-sense approach to his everyday preparation during his time WMU where he helped lead the Broncos to 65 wins, one MAC Title and a trip to the 2014 NCAA Tournament. His "follow me" leadership approach will be a very welcome addition to everyone associated with the Eagles hoops program.

Tava also brings a level of toughness to the program that's been missing. That toughness meshes perfectly with what Coach Christian has been trying to instill in his players since arriving in the spring of 2014.

Tava is the type of player while the floor that will come up and hit you in the mouth and not care. He isn't scared and doesn't back down from anyone or anything.

The word that everyone on the team, and anyone who has seen him play use to describe him is "bully". He just pushes, shoves, and muscles his way around the floor, up and down all day long. His ability to draw fouls with the ball in his hands will be an added plus to the Eagles this season as they were last in the ACC in free throw attempts a season ago. Tava is also a good passer, another weapon he can use with the ball in his hands.

I expect Tava to be the day one starter for the Eagles at the power forward spot, a position the Eagles so desperately needed to improve upon from last years production. I see Tava being a good fit in this program throughout his graduate transfer year.
