The Boston College Eagles did a facelift to their roster throughout this off season. They've brought in seven new faces to the program since the end of the 2015-16 basketball season. While six players are no longer with the team from last years roster, including four transfers. With the all of the new players on the roster, several of which fans have never seen play or don't know much about. The team's first official practice is just two months away, when they'll take the floor to prepare for the season in early October.

It's time we take a deeper look at some of those guys you know very little about and evaluate their game. While on campus over the weekend I was able to watch the team practice and evaluate each player on the roster. In the following we'll start with transfer guard Jordan Chatman, who arrived on campus three weeks ago from BYU.

If you're just looking at the stats, you will be disappointed in Chatman and not expect much out of him anytime soon at Boston College. However, the stats don't tell the full story with this interesting player. In high school he was the second ranked player in the state of Washington and also was Named the Gatorade Washington Boys Basketball Player of the Year as a senior, and MVP of the state tournament.

While at BYU, Chatman graduated from BYU with a degree in Asian Studies and so qualifies as a graduate transfer that still has three years left of eligibility for Boston College.

Chatman chose BYU over Utah, Utah State, Washington State, Stanford, Portland and Boston College in high school. He returned from serving his two year mission in Taipei, Taiwan and played last season for BYU in 36 games. Chatman was behind two senior guards in the lineup and one of the country's best returning players for this upcoming season in sophomore guard Nick Emery.

Chatman is enrolled in grad school at Boston College and is 23 years old. He has a level of maturity that this young team needs, and will need to help prepare for a long tough season as well as get through the rigorous ACC schedule. Not to mention his postseason experience he gained from the Cougar's Final Four run in the NIT last season.

Evaluation

- More athletic than anticipated, QUICK

- One of the faster guys on the team

- Really good shooter, potential to be the best shooter on the team

- Can defend

- Quiet, not a vocal leader

- He "gets it"; been around the block before

- Not overly skilled

- A "catch-and-shoot"" guy

- A serviceable ball handler

- Not a slashing guard

- Unbelievably fundamentally sound, textbook offensive player, great footwork

- Rotation guard at BC that could also play some at the 3

- A much better shooting version of former Eagle Dimitri Batten

Overview:

I was very impressed with what I saw in Chatman over the weekend. His athletic ability and most notably his quickness really stood out to me. He has the ability to be the best shooter on this years team. Although he isn't very vocal, he has a sense of calmness and a way about him that the younger players on the team seem to follow since Chatman has been through all of these drills before while preparing for a season.

Coaches never have to tell him to fix his footwork, or to take a different angle in a drill, he knows what he's doing and is a technician with everything he does on the floor. Many things he does on and off the floor for will be a welcome addition to this program right away.

I would expect for Chatman to contribute a lot for the Eagles this season.
