If you’re going to be at the men’s basketball game against Wake Forest on Saturday night or any remaining home games this season, keep your eyes peeled on the baseline closest to the BC bench during some of the timeouts.

The chicken tender, hot dog and T-shirt tosses are being taken to a whole new level thanks to one cheerleader.

Lila Glenn, a freshman at BC, has been showing off her softball arm during TV timeouts, entertaining everyone who’s caught this display. Glenn played in the outfield for Milton High School and she played club softball, which explains the rocket for an arm.

When deciding to try and join the BC cheer team, hot dog, chicken tender and t-shirt tossing wasn’t necessarily what she had in mind, but the long tosses - some that nearly reach the front rows of the upper balcony at Conte Forum - had started out simply as a fun way for her and her parents to interact while she’s down on the court.

Now, more and more eyes are noticing the impressive display while trying to get her attention for some free stuff.

“I’ve been cheerleading since freshman year of high school, but I did gymnastics before that. Before trying out I saw a picture of one of the older girls throwing a hot dog at a basketball game. I didn’t know it was a part of the role until then, but I remember hoping I’d get to show off,” Glenn said in a recent email.

“My parents are at most games because they are super supportive and we live so close. It just started as a joke between us to see how high I could get my throws and it was so funny that it was noticed!”

As you’d expect, it’s tough balancing everything student life and athletic life involves, particularly at BC, but Glenn has adjusted well thanks to some of her veteran teammates.

“So far cheer has been a fun experience, it’s been really great to have older mentors and built-in friends to see every day,” said Glenn. “College athletics has definitely made me more disciplined and organized as it’s tough to manage practice, class and homework given the rigor of BC. Luckily, my teammates and coaches have been really encouraging and I know whenever I need help I can go to them.”

While after-college plans are still a ways off, Glenn has a general idea of what she wants to do next after her days of showing off the Rookie of the Year-like arm are over.

“I’m not totally sure what my plans are. As far as I’ve gotten is working with kids and something in medicine,” she added. “I hope to study abroad and travel to see more of the country, since I’m from this area and also going to college here.”

It should be another fantastic matchup and atmosphere inside Conte on Saturday night, just don’t forget to watch the timeout tosses from Glenn too, they’ll be worth the price of admission on their own.
