Breakthrough offer for Hamlin

Boston College isn't the first school to offer Clairton, Pa., wide receiver Noah Hamlin but the Eagles did recently give him his first offer from a Power Five school.

The 5-foot-11, 158-pound receiver, a Class of 2017 prospect, had an offer from Akron going into this week. But the offer from Boston College on Monday of this week was especially significant for Hamlin, because Boston College is an Atlantic Coast Conference institution.

Hamlin said he wasn't shocked that BC offered. In fact, the Eagles have been on his radar for a long time now. Or rather he's been on the Eagles' radar.

"When I first started getting recruited they were the first (school) to really come in and see me," Hamlin told Eagle Action. "That was towards the end of my freshman year. Ever since then they've really been looking at me since."

It was Al Washington who went to Clairton on Monday. Hamlin then called Washington on the phone and that's when the offer went out.

"He said that I'm a very dynamic player. He said he really likes me. He really thinks I'm an athlete and a ball player. He wants me to play free safety and he said they like to have their best athletes on defense, but he also likes the idea of using me as a return man," Hamlin said.

"I know that he said they were the number one defense this year. So that's a really good thing. He wanted me to play free safety, so that's a really good look," he added.

Hamlin may be able to say even more about BC soon.

"I'm going to visit down there this spring," he said.

What does an offer from an ACC school - again, his first offer from a Power Five school - meant to Hamlin?

"I would love to play against great competition," he said. "That would show the character I am. I love the competition. I would especially love to play against Clemson since they just played for the national championship."
