Scouting BC target Mike Tverdov

Mike Tverdov is now a major BC target. We're taking a look at why.
Tverdov's early season junior film is what impressed the BC coaches so much. They were so impressed that they bypassed their normal offer protocol, not demanding a camp performance. They still want to see Tverdov in person, but his film was good enough -- coupled with what they already knew about him -- to justify the offer.
One thing that sets Tverdov apart from a lot of defensive linemen in the junior class is the way he uses his hands. He's got violent hands at the line of scrimmage and they often set the tone at the point of attack. They're often the major reason he's tough to deal with.
He gets off the ball quickly but it's not like he's a straight-up speed rusher that thrives on getting upfield quickly. He's got the get off but it's more that coupled with his motor and hands that make him a difficult pass rusher to defend.
Tverdov has been known to track down plays from the back side. He's not afraid to put his head down and get into the fray between the tackles. He's strong against the run and when rushing the passer.
Maybe the one knock would be his size. Tverdov doesn't have the longer frame that you often like to see in a defensive end. But he's apparently gotten bigger since last year and his size was good enough for the BC coaches to feel like they could go ahead and offer.
