Easy decision for RB Levy

For some players the prospect of making a verbal commitment nearly a year out from National Signing Day would be daunting, if not unfathomable.

But Travis Levy is one of a growing number of recruits who is deciding to do just that.

Levy is the running back from Sandy Spring (Md.) Sherwood who committed to Boston College recently, and he spoke with Eagle Action about his choice. There was nothing complex about Levy's decision, apparently. There was only the convergence of what a player wants and what a school and program provides.

"Boston College had (offered) last week about on Wednesday," Levy said. "They had been recruiting me for probably about a month. I flew up there Wednesday night and visited Thursday morning.

"I really liked the area. I liked the character and the storied history of the school," he said. "I liked the campus. It's a small campus and a good size."

Sources close to the program indicated that the BC coaches felt like Levy was a good fit for the school, academically and in terms of his character. So there seems to be mutual agreement that Levy and BC are a good fit in that regard.

Levy said he got to speak at length with several coaches at BC.

"The offensive line coach, Al Washington, Brian White, the running backs coach, Coach (Steve) Addazio," he said, rattling off a list. "A lot of them."

But no coach was more important to securing Levy's commitment than Rich Gunnell, one of the newest members of the staff.

"I like him a lot," Levy said of his lead recruiter. "He's a real good coach. He's a good person, too. He's very personal and I liked that aspect that he brings."
