Distance no obstacle for McStravick

When it comes to visiting his future home -- Boston College -- receiver Christian McStravick is proving that distance is no obstacle.
McStravick is one of two Texas commitments for the Eagles' from the Class of 2016 and he actually made the trip to Chestnut Hill for one of the Eagles' games this year. It's a rare thing indeed when a player from Texas travels to BC for a game, especially early in the season when high school players are so busy themselves.
At the very least that has to be taken as a good sign regarding the strength of McStavick's commitment. It's also a statement about just how strongly McStravick feels about BC. He's grateful for his opportunity and isn't letting many, many hundreds of miles keep him from the happenings in the football program this season.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound receiver spoke with EagleAction.com this week, both about his season and about BC.
"Our season's going well," McStravick said. "We are going into district this week on a 1-2 record. We didn't really play some of those games the way we wanted. But we've been training a lot and look really good for district right now.
"Individually I think I'm playing well. Nothing really specifically, but I'm happy about it. I'm trying to get better. I'm hoping I can lead the team," he said.
In Strake Jesuit's first game of the year McStravick got several touches and made some plays. In the last two games McStravick has been seeing a lot more double teams so his team has found it more difficult to get him the ball.
"They definitely found ways to get it to me, though," he said.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound receiver said he talks to "a few" of BC's coaches every single week. So there hasn't been any lull or slowing down in communication since recruiting changed after his commitment.
"I probably have the most contact with Coach (Coleman) Hutzler," he said. "Then Coach (Brian) White. Me and him talk a lot. I've been watching every game. I actually went up to the game against Florida State. I got to watch that one live, which was a lot of fun. It ended up not being what they wanted but it was a really good game.
"As of right now we've got to figure out when we're taking our officials (as commitments). All the commitments are going to go up at the same time," he said.
