Eagles Impress at Combine
It has been a few years since Boston College has had a substantial amount of good news come out of the NFL combine. 2014 will go down as a year where BC had many great performances by its former players.
On Saturday offensive tackle Matt Patchan got things started by impressing scouts by putting up the 4th fastest 40 time for an offensive lineman of 4.97 seconds. Unofficially Patchan also was rumored to have one of the fastest 10 yard splits in the 40, which is the time the scouts really look at to measure an offensive lineman. Later in the day Patchan posted a vertical jump of 33.5 which was the highest vertical of any offensive lineman.
On Sunday running back Andre Williams got his chance to show off for NFL personnel and didn't disappoint. BC's Heisman Trophy finalist performed as well as any running back at the combine. Williams posted the 15th fastest 40 time of 4.56. The important thing for Williams is that he clocked faster than a lot of the other "power backs" in the draft like Storm Johnson (4.6), Jeremy Hill (4.66), Carlos Hyde (4.66), Silas Redd (4.7). Williams also posted a fantastic vertical jump of 38 inches with was 4th best among running backs, and a broad jump of 129 inches which was 3rd best. Williams also had the 4th best time in the three cone drill. BC's former RB struggled a bit with his pass catching, although that was expected heading into the combine.
Another strong performer was Kaleb Ramsey who put up 36 reps on the bench press, the highest among any defensive lineman. Linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis put up the 4th highest reps of any linebacker with 28. Both players will participate in running and agility drills later on Monday.
