Big Dates in 2014
It's a new year for Boston College athletics. The turn of the calendar two weeks ago signaled new hope for the programs that need it right now and brings excitement to the programs that have a lot of momentum right now. Here's a look at some of the big sports dates in 2014.
Jan. 13 Men's Basketball vs. Syracuse- The move to the ACC has been unquestionably successful for BC. The one negative effect of the move was the loss of games against historic rivals on the hardwood. The Eagles and Orange have not played each other since BC left for the ACC, so the return of 'Cuse will be exciting for hoops fans. The concern centers on if BC can hang with the #2 team in the country.
Feb 3 Beanpot 1st Round- In two out of three years the 1st round of the Beanpot isn't a must-see event on the calendar. However, this is the "off year" as the Eagles play the Terriers in the first round.
Feb 5 National Signing Day- Steve Addazio's 2014 class will be made official on that day. Also, it will be the first time that Addazio will publically comment on the new class and might shed some light on the plans for some of the players
Feb 10 Beanpot Finals- We don't want to jinx the Eagles, but this date isn't on here for the consolation game.
Mar 12 ACC Basketball Tournament- It has been a disappointing season for BC hoops. This will be the team's last stand to try and grab a NCAA Title berth.
April 10-12 The Frozen Four, in Philadelphia-The Eagles have quietly been having a solid season. If they catch on fire down the stretch, a trip to the Frozen Four is never out of the question for Jerry York's team.
Aug 30 Football at UMass- There will be much anticipation for the opening game since the Eagles are coming off of a successful 7-6 season. That anticipation will be magnified when BC travels to Gillette to take on UMass and new coach Mark Whipple. BC fans would love to see the Eagles make a statement by dismantling the Minutemen with the Bay State watching.
Sept 13 Football vs. USC- One of DeFilippo few lasting legacies is the series that he agreed to with the Trojans. This will be one of BC's most exciting non-conference home games in quite a long time.
Dec 6 ACC Football Championship- You never know, right?
