BC Accepts Bowl Bid

From BC Media Relations

Boston College (7-5, 4-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) will face Pac-12 representative Arizona (7-5, 4-5 Pac-12) in the 2013 AdvoCare V100 Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 12:30 p.m. EST at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La. This will be the Eagles' first trip to play in the AdvoCare V100/Independence Bowl.

The game will feature a marquee matchup of the nation's leading rusher, Boston College's Andre Williams, and Arizona's Ka'Deem Carey, who is second. Williams and Carey are Doak Walker Award semifinalists. The meeting will mark the first in series history between Boston College and Arizona.

"We are very excited about Arizona and Boston College playing in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl," Chairman John Hubbard said. "These are two programs on the rise with excellent coaches and high-powered offenses. We look forward to the high-profile running back match-up that will be on display in Shreveport with Andre Williams from Boston College and Ka'Deem Carey from Arizona."

The AdvoCare V100 Bowl will mark Boston College's first bowl appearance under the direction of first-year head coach Steve Addazio and caps a remarkable turnaround from last season's 2-10 finish. It marks Boston College's first bowl appearance in the last three years and its 14th in the last 16 seasons.

ESPN will televise the game and Sports USA Radio Network will broadcast the game. The Boston College IMG Sports Radio Network will also carry the game.

About the Boston College Eagles:
• The Eagles are led by senior running back Andre Williams, who leads the nation in rushing yards with 2,102 yards. He is a Heisman Trophy candidate and Doak Walker Award finalist. He scored 17 touchdowns for the Eagles.
• He is currently in ninth place on the all-time list for yards in a season, but needs just 84 yards to move past Troy Davis of Iowa State for fourth all-time. He leads the nation at 175.2 yards per game.
• Williams was the only unanimous All-ACC first-team selection.
• First-year Coach Steve Addazio was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Football Club Coach of the Year Award.
• Senior quarterback Chase Rettig has passed for 1,804 yards with 17 touchdowns to just six interceptions. His top target is third-team All-ACC wide receiver Alex Amidon, who amassed 67 catches for 895 yards and five touchdowns.
• The Eagle defense is led by senior linebackers Kevin Pierre-Louis and Steele Divitto. Divitto, a third-team All-ACC selection, leads BC in tackles with 107, including five for loss and two sacks. He also has an interception and five passes broken up.
About the Arizona Wildcats:
• The University of Arizona finished with an identical record of 7-5 as Boston College and achieved that number in a similar fashion as the Eagles.
• The Wildcats are a dominant rushing club, much like BC, ranking 11th in the country in rushing offense. Arizona averages 265.8 yards per game on the ground.
• Much of Arizona's rushing success can be attributed to junior running back Ka'Deem Carey, who was just tabbed the 2013 Pac-12 Conference Offensive Player of the year on Dec. 2.
• Also a Doak Walker Award finalist and a Heisman Trophy and All-America candidate like BC's Andre Williams, Carey is Arizona's all-time career rushing leader (4,070 yards) and is currently the nation's No. 2 rusher (156.0 ypg) behind Williams (175.2 ypg).
• Carey is second among active FBS players with 4,070 career rushing yards. He owns or shares 21 single-game, season and career school records and leads all FBS players with 15-straight 100-yard rushing games. Carey has rushed for 1,716 yards this season.
• Arizona's signature victory came on Nov. 23 after the Wildcats shocked then-ranked No. 5 Oregon in a 42-16 triumph. The Wildcats not only ended Oregon's national title hopes, but they also held the Ducks to just 16 points. Heading into that contest, Oregon was averaging 50 points per game.
