Jones returns to UCF
C.J. Jones, returned to campus this past weekend to compete in the 7-on-7 tournament with his Port Orange (Fla.) Atlantic teammates.UCF's first 2014 commit,
"We went to the third round of the little playoff they had, so I think we did pretty good," Jones said.
Jones, a running back, actually first caught UCF's eye at last year's 7-on-7.
"I saw Coach (Danny) Barrett and Coach (Sean) Beckton around," Jones said. "We had a good conversation. We were just talking and joking around. Nothing too serious. It was fun."
The Knights picked up their second and third commits on Saturday from defensive end Sedrick King and offensive tackle Wyatt Miller. Jones had pledged in early April.
"I found out later that day on Twitter," Jones said. "I didn't get a chance to meet them when they were on campus."
Jones said Atlantic utilized their spring to experiment offensively, but will stick with what they know works.
"We had a different offense and it didn't go too well for us," Jones said. "We were running split backs this spring and had been a double wing, I-formation. We're changing it back to what we're used to. I'd say spring was a learning experience."
Still solid with his UCF pledge, Jones picked up additional offers from FAU, South Alabama and Troy during the spring. He says he'll probably head back for another unofficial visit later in the summer.
"I just like being on campus," Jones said. "I just really like everything about UCF. I like how close-knit everything is. It's like it's own little town. I also like the coaches. Coach Barrett and Coach Beckton, I talk to them a lot and they're real cool. They'll be like second parents when I get on campus. I feel really good about that."
Jones is thinking about majoring in biology. After his football career, he says he'd like to attend medical school to become a pediatrician.
