Sadler is No. 6 for Texas Tech

Argyle (Texas) wide receiver Ian Sadler committed to Texas Tech on Saturday prior to the Red Raiders' spring game. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound prospect visited Lubbock earlier in the week and was close to committing then, but decided to wait until the weekend so he could pull the trigger with both of his parents in attendance.

"My mom and dad both came down with me -- my mom wasn't with us this past Monday, my dad and I both wanted her there when I was going to commit," he said. "We came down last night, and then this morning I met with Coach (Kliff) Kingsbury, Coach (Sonny) Cumbie and Coach (Eric) Morris and I decided to commit then.

They were pretty excited. It was exciting for me. It's relieving. I'm excited to come out here in the next year and a half or so."

Sadler cited the program's family atmosphere as a major reason for his decision.

"Everyone that was involved with the football program was really kind and caring. The coaches -- it's a younger coaching staff, so I felt like I would get along moreso with them than others. That helped out a lot. The offense that they run is a good fit for me."

Even though Tech's coaching staff is entering its first season under Kingsbury, Sadler's relationship with Cumbie, who was retained from Tommy Tuberville's staff, goes back nearly two years.

"I've known Coach Cumbie for probably two years now because he recruited Trey (Keenan) and I got to see him sometimes when he came down to Argyle," Sadler said. "I've known him for a while and he's obviously the recruiter for my area. I've gotten to know him pretty well. I met Coach Morris this past year and I've gotten to know him pretty well too."

Sadler chose the Red Raiders over offers from Iowa State, Minnesota and North Texas. He expects to play inside receiver once he arrives on the South Plains.
