BC Holds Off GT

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Matt Humphrey led Boston College with 13 points and freshman Ryan Anderson had 10 to lead the Eagles to a 56-52 victory against Georgia Tech Wednesday night in front of 4,474 fans at Conte Forum.
Humphrey connected on his first four shots of the game, including three from beyond the arc. Anderson added nine rebounds and four assists, and freshman Dennis Clifford had nine points and six rebounds.
Georgia Tech held an early 12-7 lead before the Eagles went on a 21-2 run to build a 28-14 lead with 6:01 left in the half. BC scored 16 unanswered points within the 8:02 stretch and held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for more than seven minutes. Humphrey scored 11 points in the run and connected on three 3-pointers.
Boston College took a 33-22 lead into the half, its largest lead at the break in ACC action this year.
Georgia Tech opened the second half by scoring the first seven points to cut the lead to 33-29. Jason Morris capped the run with a layup and a free throw after being fouled in the act. Head Coach Steve Donahue took a timeout to regroup and the Eagles responded with a 12-2 run over the next 4:14 to push their lead to 45-31.
The BC lead reached as many as 17, 51-34, but Georgia Tech scored 13 straight points to bring the lead down to 51-47 with 5:44 left. Freshman Jordan Daniels stopped the run with a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired. Nick Foreman hit a trey of his own then a Kammeon Holsey put back made it 54-52 with 2:21 showing.
The teams traded two scoreless possessions before Georgia Tech was forced to foul and put freshman Lonnie Jackson on the free throw line. He hit both of his attempts to seal the win.
Daniel Miller led Georgia Tech (10-19, 3-12 ACC) with 13 points and seven rebounds, and Holsey recorded 12 points and seven boards.
Boston College (9-20, 4-11) concludes the regular season on Saturday with a 2:30 game at Miami.
