Defensive ends galore for 2013

SOCIAL: Follow on Twitter | Friend on Facebook

We continue the evaluation of the Class of 2013, with a look at the defensive ends and how they stack up. This is an area that Florida has produced some major talent over the last few years, and will once again, be well represented come signing day in 2013. Again, this is only a five player preview for the sake of discussion. Rankings by position will be released in April.

Top 2013 defensive ends

Joey Bosa
Strong side - defensive end
6-foot-5 |260 | St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale)
Buzz: Ranked No. 14 in the Rivals100Bosa played hurt half the season last year and still managed to be a dominant force for STA. When Jelani Hamilton and went out, Bosa stepped up. Nee's Notes (Rivals.com Florida Recruiting Analyst Chris Nee)" When you see Bosa in action on Friday night it is clearly evident why top-tier college programs are pursuing his services. He is very strong with his initial punch and does an excellent job of shedding blocks through the use of both brute strength and technique."
Schools in the mix: Alabama, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio State ( 10 total).
Jordan Sherit
Strong side defensive end
6-foot-4 |235 | Hillsborough( Tampa)
Buzz: There's a reason why Rivals.com ranks Sherit as one of the top 100 players in the country. Sherit collected 110 tackles and 14 sacks during his junior year at Hillsborough. Sherit was recently named the DL MVP at the Ignite BCP Combine in Tampa. Nee's Notes:" Sherit is in constant motion and does a very good job coming off the edge. When he is initially stalled by a blocker, he does a good job of continuing to battle to get free and get in position to make a play."
Schools in the mix: South Carolina, Stanford, Wisconsin, Miami, Cincinnati (20 total)
Demarcus Walker
Strong side defensive end
6-foot-4| 255 | Sandalwood (Jacksonville)
Buzz: The third player on this list ranked in the Rivals250 - checking in at No. 152 - Walker has the height, the weight and the speed to dominate. With a 4.62 40 time, he can get to the quarterback very quickly. In 2011, Sandalwood shifted Walker from defensive tackle to defensive end and the dividends were almost immediate. He had 24 tackles for loss, and 14 sacks as a junior last year. Look for the Saints to build their defense around him.
Schools in the mix:Clemson, North Carolina, Marshall, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech (23 total)
Paul James
Strong side defensive end
6-foot-4 |240 | Dr. Krop (Miami)
Buzz: James will have his chance to shine in 2012's season as the Lightning have established themselves as a team to watch in Dade County. With teammate Rafiki Lindsay Krop's front line may be one of the best in south Florida. Nee's Notes: has good thickness on his 6-foot-4 frame and does a good job exploding off the ball. He has active hands and does a good job of attacking inside and outside.
Schools in the mix: Alabama, Miami (2 total)
Devin Washington
Strong side defensive end
6-foot-3 | 255 | Jones (Orlando)
Buzz: Washington has come a long way in a year. He performed well at the Under Armour camp in Miami in 2011 and has shown continued improvement. He'll be the core of the Tiger defense in 2012. Nee's Notes: "a traditional speed-rusher around the end. He has a good first step that allows him to beat the tackle out of his stance but relies solely on his speed to get him around the outside"
Schools in the mix: South Carolina, South Florida, NC State, Florida, Georgia Tech (22 total)
Others in the mix:

Alvonte Bell, Miramar Everglades
De'Asian Richardson, Orange Park
Blake Keller, Bradenton Manatee
James Looney, Lake Worth
Mike Love, Clearwater Countryside
Malik Brown, West Palm Beach Dwyer
Landon Stokes, Orlando Lake Highland Prep
Seyvon Lowrey, Jacksonville First Coast
Ramar Dennis, Orlando Olympia
Nate Crawford, Pensacola West Florida Tech
Zerric Coleman, Tampa King
Brad Smith, Tampa Jesuit
