Junior loves his first BC experience

Junior athlete Jahvaney Beckford of Woodstock (Conn.) Hyde School has had a busy fall, but on Thursday night he found the time to attend his first college game at Boston College. The experience left Beckford impressed and excited for the rest of his recruiting process.

"BC is recruiting me really well," said Beckford. "My coach has also been talking to UConn and when my film gets sent out, there will be a lot more to come I think."

Included the interest Beckford has been receiving from BC, also came a game invite for the Thursday night game against Florida State.

"It was probably one of the best experiences of my life," said Beckford. "Being able to go to my first D1 football game and walking on the sideline as they warmed up."

While Beckford did not have a chance to speak to the coaching staff during his visit because of arriving late due to traffic and leaving early due to the long ride, he still has a positive impression of the program.

"They're a good organization and I think I could fit well in their program based on how it's set up," said Beckford, who is 6-foot-3, 220-pounds.

Beckford has put his full attention into his junior season, which to this point has not turned out the way he had hoped.

"We're 0-7, but individually I have been doing really well," said Beckford. "I have improved my football IQ and I have let the game come to me. At the same time I get after every single play and every down. I also took my SAT's this Saturday, and hopefully did well. Everything else is going well."

Part of Beckford's value is his versatility on the field.

"I started the season at tight end, but now I am at H-back," said Beckford. "On defense I play defensive end all the time. All I know for my stats is that I have six touchdowns in five games."

That versatility has led to the possibility of him playing a few different positions at the next level. While his future position is still up for debate, he does have a few ideas of what he will be looking for in a program.

"Basically a school with a good education and a program with a balanced offense," said Beckford. "I'm looking for a program that will help me develop and mature into a better athlete and prepare me for the NFL."
