Inside The Numbers

A couple of weeks ago we looked at BC's plus/minus numbers about halfway through ACC play.

Here are BC's final individual plus/minus numbers in ACC play

Total +/- in ACC games

R. Anderson -2
D. Clifford -99
O. Hanlan -27
J. Rahon -32
P. Heckmann -25
E. Odio -37
A. Van Nest -56
L. Jackson -55
D. Rubin -13

Not surprisingly, Ryan Anderson and Olivier Hanlan are near the top in this category which is no surprise considering they are thought to be the two best players on the team.

The lowest +/- numbers on the team belong to Dennis Clifford . A lot of that has to do with the fact that coach Donahue uses Clifford for defensive substitutions quite a bit. Obviously Clifford's knee injury is another reason for his lower than expected numbers.

In the numbers below, the highest and lowest individual +/- single game performance for each player was taken out. It didn't change things too much except for Joe Rahon, who after a -32 performance against Miami gets pulled out, is one of the best plus/minus performers on the team.

Total +/- With Highest/Lowest Game Taken Out

R. Anderson -3
D. Clifford -87
O. Hanlan -16
J. Rahon -13
P. Heckmann -18
E. Odio -23
A. Van Nest -40
L. Jackson -44
D. Rubin -14

Below are the home game numbers followed by the away game numbers. The most eye popping numbers are how much better the two freshmen Hanlan and Rahon, and also Eddie Odio, seem to perform at home vs. on the road, which obviously isn't uncommon for young players

Home vs Away

R. Anderson 29 -31
D. Clifford -55 -44
O. Hanlan 46 -73
J. Rahon 31 -63
P. Heckmann 18 -43
E. Odio 27 -64
A. Van Nest -24 -32
L. Jackson -26 -29
D. Rubin -25 12

Below are +/- numbers in wins and losses

Wins
R. Anderson 53
D. Clifford -23
O. Hanlan 45
J. Rahon 59
P. Heckmann 41
E. Odio 50
A. Van Nest -8
L. Jackson 13
D. Rubin -17

Losses
R. Anderson -55
D. Clifford -76
O. Hanlan -72
J. Rahon -91
P. Heckmann -66
E. Odio -87
A. Van Nest -48
L. Jackson -68
D. Rubin 4

According to the stats above, Joe Rahon's performance may go the furthest in determining a win and loss as he has the highest plus/minus in wins and the lowest plus/minus in losses. Interestingly enough, BC has not won an ACC game in which Rahon didn't end up with a +1 or above in the game. You can't say that about any other player on BC.
