Spartans like Southfield DE
Spartan Defensive Coordinator Pat Narduzzi loves players that can get after the quarterback. One of the 2014 prospects that does that better than anyone is Lawrence Marshall of Southfield High School. SpartanMag.com has the latest details on his recruitment.
Marshall is having a strong season for Southfield High School helping the Blue Jays to a 4-3 record and a shot at the playoffs. We asked him about his season so far and the schools he is hearing from as far as recruiting.
"My season is going great," he said. "I have 35 tackles and 6 sacks so far. As far as recruiting, I have offers from Bowling Green and San Diego State. Some of the schools that are showing me a lot of interest are Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Syracuse, West Virginia and Ohio State."
What type of contact have you had with Michigan State and what are your thoughts on the Spartans?
"I hear from them a lot," Marshall said. "I have a good relationship with Coach Salem. I was up there for the Notre Dame game. I really like how Michigan State runs their defense. I love how they produce great players."
Marshal is not only an outstanding football player, but he also excels on the basketball court. He is one of the top players for the Blue Jays and plays AAU basketball for the Family. It is his size (6-foot-3, 225-pounds) and overall athletic ability that has so many college coaches excited about his upside potential.
We asked Marshall what he views as his strengths as a player and if he knows anyone that currently plays for the Spartans
"My strengths as a player are my pass rushing skills. I am quick off the ball and I have fast hands. I know Jamal Lyles up at Michigan State.
Defensive end recruiting is always a top priority for Michigan State. It is very possible that Marshall may develop into a recruit with ability like current Spartan defensive end Shilique Calhoun of New Jersey. Calhoun had similar size coming out high school and like Marhsall he excelled on the hardwood and gridiron.
SpartanMag.com will be sure top follow-up with Marshall in the coming weeks. It is very possible he could vault into one of the top recruits in Michigan for the class of 2014.
