It is definitely not too early to start identifying the top talent in the 2014 class and in the state of Ohio Columbus Bishop Hartley defensive back Alonzo Saxton continues to impress. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback was one of the more highly regarded prospects at the Best of the Midwest combine on Monday. Saxton came down with a group called Storm Team Sports and did some good things in both the testing and 1on1 portions of the event.

"I feel like I did alright," said Saxton. "I'm still a little rough around the edges because this is only the second time that I've really competed this year (coming off an injury). I think my footwork is getting a lot better and my hips are getting a lot quicker. I've got to work on staying on (the receiver's) hip a little more out there."

Saxton jumped onto the college recruiting scene very early in the process after standing out at corner for Bishop Hartley's state championship team in 2011. As a freshman starter, Saxton said he didn't play with as much confidence as he does now and is getting more comfortable on the big stage in these combine settings.

"I'm feeling a lot more comfortable," he said. "I'm trying to get a little more physical and trying to anticipate the routes better, stay on their hip, but yeah I'm feeling a lot more comfortable."

Saxton only played in six games as a sophomore due to injury but made a huge impact on both sides of the ball in those six games.

"I think I got a lot better," he said. "I think the biggest thing was my confidence level. I didn't have a ton of confidence going into my freshman year but my sophomore year I had a whole lot more confidence. I started to do some things that I didn't know that I could do."

On the recruiting front, Saxton already holds two offers from Illinois and Toledo and is hearing from plenty of schools around the nation.

"I'm hearing a lot from Illinois, they recently offered me," he explained. "Cincinnati, Boston College, Toledo, Ohio State, and Northwestern (are all recruiting him). I'm looking into all of them, but I really don't have a favorite school."

As a local product, Saxton is already getting plenty of interest from Ohio State. He was invited to a recent junior day but was unable to attend due to a track meet. Still, he's looking forward to learning more about the program.

"I think it's good for Ohio State to get Urban Meyer," he said. "I know that he's looking into a lot of DB's so that's good for me and I'm excited to see what they do this year."

Saxton added that he will be at Illinois this weekend for a junior day.
