Local DT likes the Eagles

Maurice Hurst Jr. is already drawing interest from schools across the region and beyond and Boston College is hosting him for their junior day this weekend.

While Hurst hasn't received any early offers yet it's clear that schools have taken notice.

The 6-foot-2, 265-pound defensive tackle from Xaverian had 61 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks and four forced fumbles this past fall and he also rushed for two touchdowns on offense.

"I'm not really sure about favorites but I do like Purdue and Missouri a lot," Hurst said. "I like Boston College a lot, too. I've had a lot of contact with them.

"I've spoken to pretty much the whole coaching staff. They've come by my school and I've talked to them at different times."

What does Hurst like about BC?

"I know that they have really good academics there and a lot of the players from my school head up there," he answered.

"I went to camp there for two years and I went to the Florida State game this past year."

Hurst said he has also been to UConn for a game.

"UConn was really nice," he added. "I really liked the facilities."

He noted that he will be at BC for the junior day this weekend and after that he will go to Maryland and a couple of other schools.

"A lot of them seem pretty interested but they're just judging me off my highlight tape so far. Hopefully this summer I'll get to go out and show them some stuff."
