Ohio QB likes Spartans

This past summer class of 2013 quarterback prospect Ricky Davis of Archbishop Moeller High School made the camp rounds and secured scholarship offers from Akron and Bowling Green. SpartanMag.com caught with the 6-foot-2, 190-pound signal-caller and got the latest details on his recruitment.

Davis has been unable to attend many college games this fall due to Moeller playing several games on Saturday's as well as still being alive in the Ohio State playoffs. This weekend, the Crusaders have a rematch with rival St. Xavier High School in the Ohio quarterfinals. Moeller defeated St. Xavier by a score of 27-24.

SpartanMag.com asked him what he has heard from Michigan State.

"Yes, I have spoken with Coach Harlon Barnett," he said. "Michigan State wants me to come to a game, but my team is still in the playoffs. I am going to have to make an unofficial visit in the offseason.

We asked Davis about the schools that have offered and what schools are standing out at this point in his recruitment.
"I still have the two offers (Akron and Bowling Green). Michigan State would be at the top of my list. I also like Penn State, Tennessee and Minnesota."
Davis is viewed as a traditional pocket style quarterbacks and the majority of schools he is considering run a pro-style type of offense. The ability to make all of the throws with accuracy is critical when it comes to the Spartan offense.
As of right now the Spartans have not offered any quarterbacks from the class of 2013 except for Shane Morris who committed to Michigan last summer. You can be sure they will be keeping a close eye on Davis this spring and will certainly want him at a session of camp.
The Spartans are recruiting from a position of strength at the quarterback spot. Not only have they had a lot of recent success with putting quarterback sin the NFL, but with Andrew Maxwell set to take over for Kirk Cousins a class of 2013 will likely have a year to develop before competing for the job.
SpartanMag.com will be sure to stay in contact with Davis as his recruitment unfolds over the coming months.
