Hicks enjoys Spartan visit

On Tuesday one of the top prospects on the recruiting board for Head Coach Mark Dantonio and the Spartan was on campus in defensive back Darian Hicks of Solon High School. SpartanMag.com has some details about his time on campus and where Michigan State stands.

The 6-foot-0, 175-pound Hicks is rated a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com. He is currently not rated as far as the cornerback position, but that may only be a formality as his scholarship list is impressive. In addition to Michigan State, Hicks currently holds offers from BCS programs Penn State, Iowa, Purdue, West Virginia, Boston College, Cincinnati, Louisville, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Illinois and Indiana.

Spartanmag.com asked Hicks about his time on campus on Tuesday

"It was good, he stated. I was able to watch them practice and I was able to tour the facilities and the academic center. I really liked everything I saw, the campus was really nice and I also liked the coaches. I also was able to talk with Johnny Adams some as well."
Like Hicks, Adams is an Ohio native that had an impressive list of suitors when he was coming out of high school. He is also a returning All-Big Ten performer who is considered by many to be a potential early round NFL draft pick for 2013. Hicks talked about his conversation with Adams.

"He just told me to make sure I consider Michigan State and to make sure it is what I want. I like Michigan state a lot, they are really high on my list."

Michigan State has been recruiting Hicks for quite some time now. They started last year when they were evaluating and recruiting his teammates at Solon High school Tres Barksdale and Nate Hoff. Both Barksdale and Hoff camped at Michigan State and had strong performances. Barksdale has decided to enroll at Michigan State as preferred walk-on while Hoff accepted and appointment to the United States Naval Academy.

As far as when he may make his college decision Hicks informed us that he does not have a set date or a plan as far as when he will pull the trigger. In the past he has indicated that he may wait things out a bit, but he also understand that scholarship spots at some schools are limited and if he wants to be a part of certain programs he may have to make his choice to ensure somebody else does not grab the scholarship slot.

Spartanmag.com will be sure to keep in contact with Hicks in the coming weeks. Coach Pat Narduzzi is serving as the primary recruiter of Hicks for Michigan State and you can be sure the Spartan Defensive Coordinator will be keeping in regular contact with him throughout the process and will be stopping into Solon High school when permitted by the NCAA.
