Hoops Recruiting Notes
-This is a time of year when a lot of college basketball players announce their intentions to transfer from their school. This week, some of the big name local players announcing their intentions to transfer included UConn's Alex Oriakhi, Michigan's Evan Smotrycz, and Wake Forest's Carson Desrosiers.
Although a Desrosiers/Clifford frontcourt would be a devastating combo don't look for that to happen since ACC transfers have to sit out two years after transferring. So far, there hasn't been a lot of buzz around a Smotrycz transfer to BC. That isn't all that surprising since he wasn't recruited too heavily by BC the first time around when he was at New Hampton Prep, a school that Donahue and his staff have one of their best local relationships with, with coach Pete Hutchins.
Oriakhi is the wildcard of the transfer group. Some laughed off an Oriakhi to BC transfer scenario, thinking that a UConn player would never go to BC. However, sources close to the Oriakhi camp have said that he has genuine interest in coming to BC. The Eagles obviously have interest in a player of Oriakhi's skill level as well. After the NCAA ruled that UConn can't play in the 2013 NCAA Tournament because of their academic issues, Oriakhi wouldn't even have to sit out a year either and can play next year. Right now it's just a matter of figuring out if BC's current roster is a good fit for the big man and vice-versa.
-Coach Steve Donahue and his staff are still looking to possibly add another commitment for the class of 2012. This weekend, a big time visitor is in town as Jordan Tebbutt makes one of his five official visits that he has available. Tebbutt is 6'5", 215 pounds and possesses the range from the outside needed in Donahue's offense. Tebbutt also knows how to use his big frame to score down low if ne needs to. The fact that he's taking one of his five official visits to BC means the Eagles are certainly right in the hunt.
-6'8" power forward Tony Gill was supposed to visit BC last weekend, but his flight got cancelled and he couldn't get another flight from California in time to make the trip worth it. Gill and the BC staff are in the middle of rescheduling his visit.
-Next week, EagleAction will have interview with 2013 prospects Davon Reed, Darryl Hicks, and London Perrantes, all of whom are being recruited by BC.
