Not sure what to make of this.  Not just because he's a BU guy but...something doesn't smell right here.  Over the years, he should have made enough dough to take care of his kids and grandchildren without doing this.  Speakers such as he can make 35k per speech....do 50 of those a year for 10-20 years........it adds up.

That's what I'm saying...shouldn't he have enough already for all of those things?  He should have been pulling in >$1M/year for a very long time.

A guy w/ his money making potential should have hired a financial guru and an estate attorney 30 years ago.  This guy travels around to Fortune 500 companies giving motivational speeches...those things demand a lot of cash to the speaker.

I guess, after watching "Broke" on ESPN, nothing surprises me.

Not sure where you get 1 million per year?? I guess he was a motivational speaker at one point but there are only so many of those gigs avaialable. If you owned a company, how much would you pay him..$20K?? Don't forget, hockey is regional and many people forgot about him until Miracle came out.

His victory was voted the biggest sporting event of the 20th century so...people who don't know him must live under a rock..or south of the Mason/Dixon...same thing.

I guarantee there are still a ton of companies that would hire him to speak if he had the right agent...heck, Bruce Jenner is making a killing doing it and he won his medal 4 years before Eruzione.

What's the shelf life on that moment?  That was 30 years ago.  The twenty somethings and half the thirty somethings don't know him.    You think he has oodles of 'good paying' speaking engagements now?  I'd bet even those in Eastern Mass have already heard him speak at some point and are blase about hearing him again.  I don't doubt that a lot of pee wee hockey groups want him to speak but they don't pay.

Looks like he gets 25K. Guessing he nets out 15-20 after they get their cut. After taxes maybe 9-12K. I think your estimate of 50 times a year is high. Getting 1.5 million for a jersey and a hat. Great move.

There are many Eruzione authentic items at the Olympic Museum in Lake Placid. I'm sure he's got extra gloves, etc he wore during the Games that he can sell while not giving anything up of real sentimental value.

Just suffice to say...he's not doing all of this "for his kids and grandkids".....I'll leave it at that.

Bob Knight recently sold his NCAA championship rings, allegedly for his kids/grandkids, and I don't believe that either.
Seems to be a stock response.

If he were making one tenth of $1.5 million in the speaking circuit then he would not be pulling a paycheck from the BU development office . No one wants to pay for his story anymore .
