Really surprised it will only seat 6,000...

Figured it would at least be Conte sized.

I'm struggling to process spending $90 million on a facility that only seats 6000.  I know its got all sort of offices and other behind the seats stuff, but this is central PA, not Manhattan.

Except it was mostly (maybe entirely) funded by a $102M donation by Terry Pegula

Penn St is state-related not state owned.  So are Pitt, Temple, and Lincoln.  The State provides a yearly allocation.
2/5 7:16 PM | IP: Logged Entirely funded by the Pegula's gift, but I believe that gift also includes endowing scholarships for both teams, coaching positions and operating budget. The building is going to be awesome and 6k is a great size. 16-18 dates is a lot is central PA. Their goal was a loud, tough place to play. I like the size.

The Pegula's gift does include fully funding the scholarships and I think operating budgets for both the women's & men's teams along with the funds for the building of the rink.  They will pack it at 6K easily when they have their full allotment of scholarship players on board.  The students and locals support PSU strongly.

And their basketball program is pretty much a non-entity, so if the hockey team can even be competitive in the B1G it'll be the #1 winter sport there.

Would like to see more BCS conference schools field teams.  Looking at you Colorado, Utah, Washington, Syracuse, Pitt, Missouri, and all remaining B1G schools.  Not likely to happen in this economic climate but hopefully it will if and when the economy bounces back.  It's good for the sport when programs like BC, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, etc. are in the Frozen Four.

Have always figured Northwestern to be a natural for a new hockey program, huge Chicago market, natural rivals in Wi. Mi. MSU. no competition, don't think UIC has a team anymore but haven't hear a word about this.

102M to an school that swept rampant pedophilia under the rug.

I often wondered whether the scandal would have an impact on the gift . Apparently it did not.

will be interesting to watch this program. Man, people at Princeton loved Guy G. even student athletes from other mens/womens teams talked about how he fostered teamwork, inclusion, fun.
