1-0 Eagles end of first. Q. Smith w the goal in the final minute.  Interesting and fortunate sequence.  HU player falls down in his own zone all by himself, hand passes puck.  Faceoff in Harvard end, Sit gets tossed from circle, Dyroff gets a fantastic faceoff win and the puck get blocked and goes right to Smith all alone, off the bar and in.

Harvard came out with a lot of energy in the first 5 minutes or so, owning the first four or five shots on goal.  BC woke up midway through the period and then worked extremely hard for that goal.  It was set up by a high pressure PP and then another good minute and a half of the forecheck.  Good way to close out the period.

Bad decision from macleod there...big save by milner

Girard making some great saves here in the 2nd.  BC starting to grind in the Harvard zone for several shifts in a row and generating some nice chances.  Quinn Smith looks great tonight, great setup to Sit for a point blank pad save by Girard.

And now a Harvard player grabs Wey's stick and falls down so Wey goes to the box. Gaudreau sets up Mullane for a breakaway but Girard stuffed it.  Penalty killed.

BC kills another Wey penalty without allowing a SOG this time.  BC still generating nice chances even shorthanded.  Probably not a good thing that Harvard is hanging around though.

Q Smith again.  2-0 Eagles.  Nearing end of 2nd.

Matheson PPG.  3-0.  One-timer bomb.

I know harvard is a bad team but so are maine and uvm. This has been a very good 40 minutes of hockey.

Doherty/matheson would be a dynamic duo leading the PP next year.

I think BC is playing really well and Straight is skating better than I have ever seen him.  Linell has new life on the first line, and Quinn Smith is showing a pretty good shot in good position.  Sit is skating well.  Patrick Brown is all over the ice again.  All of a sudden, we appear to have 4 lines making things happen.  Harvard is playing as well as they can.

Matheson is a huge game changer.

Lower lines really playing like maniacs.  Brown, Smith, Dyroff are playing good solid hockey right now.  Dyroff has just been throwing people around the past few games.  But as you said Harvard is terrible so tough to gauge everything right now.

Whitney with another disgusting snipe.  Jesus.  4-1 Eagles 5 mins left.

These last two years are validating the reports that steven would be better than joe. He has developed into a huge goal scoring threat.

We may have found a 4th line

Eagles win 4-1.  Very solid 60 minute effort there.  Get there early to cheer on the Terriers in the early game.

I loved Joe Whitney, a great Eagle, but he ain't close to the player his brother is

Very solid 60 minutes of hockey for this group.

Who says those bottom 2 lines can't score?

As said above, Matheson makes such a difference back there.  He simply has the offensive skill none of these dmen have.

Meant to say it before last night but what a progression for Steven Whitney.  From undisciplined and inconsistent to an absolute sniper.  For someone his size he can simply launch bombs from the point, what a 4 year player.

Girard really impressed me as it could've been 7-1, Harvard just isn't good.

BTW starting in 2010 BU is 2-5 in the Beanpot, unreal.

Denver Post has the score backwards this AM, just about choked my breakfast.

They played well enough to win, Harvard was effective in the first 8 minutes but BC gradually took over the game even though nursing a 1-0 lead made me very nervous.  Harvard hit the post, just missing as the puck crossed the crease and bounced off Milner's skate. Yikes it was close.  Next week's game will be tough, have to take away Roy's space, his line is the one that will hurt us.

Must respectfully disagree, although Joe was a terrific player.  Joe had a great Freshmen season, but then tailed off badly as a sophomore.  Steve is such a complete player and is more tenacious than Joe.  I can see if you prefer one over the other but Steve is sitting here as the leading goal scorer on this team and in Hockey East.  Will always remember Joe's goal in OT vs. Miami..

That was a fantastic win by the Eagles. Harvard did not play like a 5-15 team, but instead played as if their season was on the line and BC was up to the challenge. Awesome!

Two very different players obviously.  Steven is very dynamic offensively and has an insane wrist shot but had been prone previously to taking some really bad penalties.  Not only is he having a heck of a year but he's really cut down on the penalties.  Joe was a bit more steady (to be fair he also took some bad penalties but not like Steven) and relied on his vision more (which his brother also has) to be a playmaker as his skating was not as good as Steven's.  Both were good working the points on the PP.

Whitney is having a heck of a year.  We all know what he is capable of.  Go back to the HE semis a few years ago against NU and he put one of the sickest goals I've ever seen off the bar and in.  His wrist shot off the heel drag down the right side is absurd.  Sniped one last night.  Sniped one vs. Merrimack through a dman's legs that was as good as it gets.  I'd love to know what flex he is using, he has incredible snap on his shots.

Tim, I took that to mean that he also thinks Steven is a better player...
2/5 11:40 AM | IP: Logged
Yes, Tim misunderstood what i said i think...............As for Joe, i loved how he worked the crowd at the NC celebrations outside O'Neil. Very outgoing , personable etc. He'd make a good politician
2/5 11:57 AM | IP: Logged
My bad,  I completely misread.   I do however think Joe was a very good player at BC.  He had like 40 assists as a freshman, and was terrific on the Powerplay.
2/5 1:42 PM | IP: Logged
No doubt. I think what's cool about this is the reports were Steven would be a better player, but through his first two years he didn't really show it. These last two years though...wow. Great stuff from him.

Starting with the 2010 Beanpot, BU is tied with Harvard for the worst record in the tournament

BC: 7-0
NU: 3-4
Harvard: 2-5
BU: 2-5

Absolutely absurd considering what they use to do in this thing.

^^^ good stuff Claver. Now, what is the record of our seniors in The Garden? 13-0? I was hoping for a chant towards the end of the game Monday "THIS IS OUR HOUSE" because it certainly has been. Let's hope we can get that to 16-0!
