Unless BC can put on another fantastic finish it is very possible they can be on the outside looking in for prime positioning come NCAA tournament time. Most of their remaining games will not help a lot even if they win (Maine x2, Vermont x3,
Merrimack x2 and Harvard) but losses in those games will hurt their RPI which is one of the PWR comparisons. Games with UNH, UML and a possible Beanpot final with BU are the most critcal to win while the Providence series could also loom large. UNH hosts in Manchester so if they finish in the same seed as BC which is quite possible as #1 or #2 seeds then Manchester would not be possible for BC. Quinnipiac holds the other top seed in Providence as of now and Yale is on the doorstep as well at 5th. So if one falters the other could still keep BC out west. UML with a win over BC later could quite possibly overtake BC as well. There is not much room for error if the Eagles want to play as a top seed in the East in front of a friendly crowd.

I think the placement of the teams over the past several seasons shows us that the NCAA much prefers to keep a #2 BC team in the east, if it protects bracket integrity.  In other words, the NCAA selection committee will do everything to avoid a First round all Hockey East game (if BC were to fall to a #4..they would not pair up a #1 UNH vs. #4 BC in a first round game).  But the NCAA has no problem slotting BC as a #2 seed in the same region with a #1 UNH.   Don't forget that BC may get another shot at BU/UNH/UMass Lowell in the HE tournament as well.

They have a nice RPI and a nice TUC record.  Keep winning and they will be fine.

Agreed Mav, you have to win your way in February and March although I think UNH gets a free pass in the first round.  Fortunately they never do it anything with it.

They have a very good record versus TUC. If BC ends up with a #2 seed they will stay east, no doubt.

#2 seed overall? Or a #2 seed in a regional...like seeded 5-8?
1/20 10:30 PM | IP: Logged
The committee has been more likely to switch teams in the 3rd and 4th bands for attendance purposes. They like to keep the top 8 true to form (i.e. 1 vs. 8, 2 vs.7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5) as much as possible. The top 4 are placed in order after placing host schools so if UNH is a #1 seed BC would have to be ahead of both Yale and Quinnipiac if they are also a #1 to stay east. If they are a #2 seed(5-8) there is some flexibility but no guarantee of staying east. For example if the Q stays as the overall #1 and BC is the top #2(5th overall) and if UNH is also a #2 seed, they would not be in Providence with the Q to protect bracket integrity. As the overall #7 maybe, but not as the #5 as the committee protects the overall #1 as much as possible..

#2 in a regional. Big trouble if QU stays ahead of BC and UNH also gets a #1 seed. BC as a #1 seed will get sent West, but Minn. will not be in their bracket and BC would not play them until the championship game.

at least we have the UNH game which is looking huge at this point (and UML game) at home .

big game tonight as Q faces Yale.  both a TUC and a CoOp with BC.  Q also plays harvard for 2 and i think has one more with Yale after tonight.  we could use an upset or three there.

that PC tie is looming large in the CoOp with miami but they have yet to play Notre Dame.  Those 2 head to head matchups could help us (though they'd still have the RPI tiebreaker at the moment)

I dont see us catching Minn in any scenario.

if they win and increase their RPI they should be safe from the guys beneath them.  but the last UNH game will be huge.

Maine losses aren't hurting too badly bc they are not a tuc. Still have solid edge on unh. Yale could flip if we lose to Harvard.

As of this morning, BC is a #1 seed in Manchester, so amazingly this slide hasn't cost them yet.  Ideally, BC would cop the top seed in Providence, but the goal is certainly to stay East.  The potentially back to back games of Lowell/BU will be big for us.

BC is the only team unh can Catch as well (barring pwr miracles of course) and they already have the rpi advantage. That final H2H is a must win as well as staying ahead in HE play (CoOp)

Umass could fall off the TUC cliff. Don't know how that would affect us at 2-1 vs them

yes, UMA still has home and home's with UML and MC as well as 2 at UNH. they are a team i do not want to see again
