If there's one shred of consistency from week-to-week in Hockey East, it's this: always predict a weekend split. No Hockey East team has swept a league foe over a weekend series this season, and don't expect that trend to be bucked quite yet, especially when looking at this weekend's Boston College-Maine series. The No. 17 Eagles are coming off a weekend split with fellow No. 17 Vermont, with the Catamounts getting the last laugh with a 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon

It's been a tale of two seasons for Butch Davis' Tar Heel squad, as North Carolina dropped its first two ACC contests - including a 16-3 loss to Virginia at home. Compare that to three wins in a row over Virginia Tech, Duke, and Miami and it's hard to find a hotter team in the ACC.
A main reason for UNC's winning ways has been that their defense is finally living up to their potential. The Tar Heel defense is loaded with players who will be first or second round draft picks, and the offensive has started to move the ball better, keeping them off the field

The script was the same for Sunday afternoon as it was for Saturday night- hard skating, sharp passing, good defense and the ability to take advantage of opponent's mistakes. This time however, the starring role went to Vermont and the Catamounts lasted out a 3-2 victory over Boston College at the Conte Forum. Right from the opening faceoff the Catamounts had the Eagles back on their heals, pressing the play in each zone and scoring the opening goal at 2:44 into the game, just a reversal of Saturday night when the Eagles opened the scoring at 2:45 of the first period

That's how to beat Virginia, running the ball. With not even a play-fake, Shinskie's end zone interception was doomed from the start. The entire defense read pass from the get-go, and the result was a huge momentum swing for the Cavs right off the bat. The key was to keep getting four yards per carry on the run, set up play action, then scorch Virginia deep.

With the final 7-1 score, The Eagles hardly resembled the team that lost in Vermont 4-1 earlier in the season in a dismal effort that produced nothing but question marks about this season's Eagles. This time the passes were on target, the skates must have been sharper, checks were finished, the young defense played like a bunch of veterans and six players scored goals in a total team effort
